FRIEDEBERG + AYALA
On March 5, 2026, Mexico and the art world lost one of its last great eccentrics. Pedro Friedeberg departed as he lived: in peace, surrounded by his loved ones, leaving behind a universe that no longer needs his presence to continue multiplying. This collection, conceived alongside him, becomes today something different than it was the day it was born. It is no longer just a dialogue between two crafts. It is also a place where his work continues to move—literally, on the shoulders of those who wear it. We do not treat this as a time for mourning. Friedeberg dedicated seventy years to proving that the serious and the absurd can occupy the same space without contradiction. This series honors that conviction: each piece remains in circulation, unfolding over a body, continuing to generate the same question his work always did—why not? Maison Ayala thanks the Pedro Friedeberg Foundation and his family for allowing us to be, until the end, part of that dialogue.
